On behalf of the Municipal Department 22 – Environmental Protection in Vienna (MA 22), SHIFTING VALUES arranges a conference on the sustainable procurement of fish and fish products.

Vienna’s public canteens and facilities serve more than 100,000 meals a day, and the Austrian Nutrition Society recommends to have fish on the plate once or twice a week. However, both fisheries and agriculture severely impact on the environment and compromise fish welfare. Sustainable procurement of fish products thus faces huge challenges.

The morning of the event will be dedicated to expert presentations (partly in English) by internationally recognised experts. In the afternoon, working groups will discuss criteria for the public procurement of sustainable fish products. The focus will be on the exchange of information between different stakeholders and on the development of practical implementation strategies.
