Expert workshop discusses conservation measures

Around 70 experts from 17 countries are meeting for a workshop on the 22nd and 23rd of November 2017 to discuss underwater noise caused by hydrocarbon exploration under the seabed, its consequences on marine biodiversity and possible conservation measures.

Participants include decision-makers, marine biologists, UN representatives, multilateral environmental agreements, national environmental and energy departments, seismographic companies, the fishing and tourism sector, and civil society organisations.

The Workshop is hosted by OceanCare and NRDC, international marine conservation organisations, and technically and financially supported by the Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU).

“We are excited about the interest in this workshop, which we hope will generate concrete recommendations about how to address the problem of underwater noise in the region and to protect marine wildlife,” says Nicolas Entrup, spokesperson for the conveners.
